Are you thinking about starting a new business or struggling to grow your existing business? I’ve been in your shoes! Or, since it’s summer…your sandals!

I’ve decided to share some of my favorite books to help you on your entrepreneurial journey. I consider these MUST READS for your business success! And, since it’s summer, I picked five that are easy to read in your lounge chair on the patio, by the pool, or at the beach. Enjoy!

1. The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work and What to Do About It

by Michael E. Gerber

Many of us start a business because we have a specific expertise or passion. However, few of us are experts in running a business. And we often don’t realize how much is actually involved in it. The growth of your business will be limited by your time, knowledge, and energy unless you systematize it and hire people to help you run it. “The E-Myth Revisited” is a brilliant story about the transition of an overwhelmed business owner into a successful leader and manager. This book changed my mindset about the way I operated my first business, so I was able to grow it and eventually sell it! If you want to grow your business, this book is a must-read!

Favorite quote from the book: “Once you recognize that the purpose of your life is not to serve your business, but that the primary purpose of your business is to serve your life, you can then go to work on your business, rather than in it, with a full understanding of why it is absolutely necessary for you to do so.”

2. Building a StoryBrand: Clarify Your Message So Customers Will Listen

by Donald Miller

People love stories. The most powerful stories draw us in to the struggles and emotions the characters are experiencing. We empathize with them and connect with them at a deeper level through the story. We listen to stories at family gatherings, read about them in books, and experience them at the movies. Most people don’t think about the power of storytelling in marketing. And when they do, it’s often to tell the story of the company or the business owner. “Building a StoryBrand” flips this idea on its head. Donald Miller explains how to attract and connect with your target market
